‘Interior Chinatown’: Hulu’s New Series Adds Ronny Chieng and Chloe Bennet To Cast

Hulu previously announced Jimmy O. Yang as the cast lead of ‘Interior Chinatown.’ Now, Ronny Chieng and Chloe Bennett are the first cast members to join him.
With a 10-episode order, the series is based on Charles Yu’s best-selling novel of the same name, centered on the character Willis Wu (Yang), a fledgling actor who is an extra on a police procedural crime series and bolsters his meager acting income by waiting tables.

His mundane life in Chinatown suddenly becomes intriguing after he witnesses a real-life crime. That leads him to make chilling discoveries about the crime syndicate operating in Chinatown. In the midst of all this, he unearths surprising details about his family history.

Ronny Chieng will portray Willis’ best friend, Fatty Choi.
Chloe Bennet will take on the role of Detective Lana Lee. She is an up-and-coming actress. Her debut role has her playing the new lead character on a police procedural crime series, Black & White.
Lana and Willis get to form an unlikely partnership after their characters cross on set.

Chieng runs an acting and comedy career and has several stand-up specials on Netflix, best known for creating and starring in the ABC Australia sitcom Ronny Chieng: International Student.
Bennet is best recognized for her role as s Daisy Johnson/Quake in the ABC superhero drama series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
She recently booked a part in the third season of the hit FXX series Dave.

Interior Chinatown – Production

The show is produced by 20th Television for Hulu, where the author Yu serves as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer.
Taika Waititi will direct the pilot episode. He also executive produces alongside Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Elsie Choi for Rideback as well as Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Miura Kite, and Garrett Basch for Dive.

The show is still in its early development stage, so is yet without a premiere date. In the meantime, we will bring production updates and news as soon as they are released.
