Suikoden 1&2 HD Remasters Are Released In 2023 Announces Konami

Konami has announced that Suikoden 1 & 2 are being remastered in HD for modern platforms. The announcement was made during the Tokyo Game Show 2022.
Even though they are two of the best RPGs on the original PlayStation, the Suikoden series hasn’t received a new entry in a long time.

The original Suikoden was released for the PS1 in 1995…

“it follows the political machinations within the mighty Scarlet Moon Empire, which is being controlled from the shadows by a supernatural force.”

Suikoden 2 launched on the PS1 in 1998…

“it followed three youths: Riou, Jowy, and Nanami, who are caught in the struggle between two nations. Riou is gifted the mighty Bright Shield Rune, while Jowy is given the Black Sword Rune, pitting the two best friends against each other on different sides of the conflict.”

A trailer was shown during the Tokyo Game Show 2022, announcing Suikoden I and II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2023.
The trailer can be watched on the official Konami YouTube channel and below.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars Announcement Trailer

Suikoden I and II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will feature several improvements over the original games.
All of the background illustrations and pixel art in the game have been upgraded to HD. Putting the game in line with something like the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series.
The sound effects have been replaced, the battle effects are now in HD, and players can now speed up battles.
There is also a conversation log added, and the games now have an auto-save feature. It’s currently unconfirmed whether either game will feature new content, or whether the changes are purely aesthetic.

It’s possible that the Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter success is what prompted Konami to dust off the Suikoden franchise and see if they resonate with a brand new audience that has never had the chance to experience them before.
