‘Trapped’ and ‘Valhalla Murders’: from cold Iceland to Netflix
‘Trapped’ and ‘Valhalla Murders’ the Icelandic series that are conquering the world through Netflix.
It is not today that Netflix is promoting the series of Nordic countries. Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland are producing TV series with excellent public and critical acceptance.
Nobel and Lilyhammmer (Norway) Rita and Herrens veje (Denmark) and Quicksand (Sweden) are some TV series that deserve your attention.
But today we are going to talk about two series from Iceland that surprise by the quality of the story, impeccable cast and the beautiful icy landscapes.

Trapped
Trapped (Icelandic: Ófærð) is an Icelandic television mystery drama series, created by Baltasar Kormákur and produced by RVK Studios.
The most expensive television series ever made in Iceland, with overall costs estimated to be about €6,500,000 EUR.
Season One (2015), no one can enter or leave small town on the Icelandic coast because of the blizzard.
A Danish cruise ship is kept in port so local police can try to find out who killed and cut off a passenger’s head and body parts.
Mystery, tension, snow, isolation and dense weather create the real feeling of being stuck in one place.
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Andri Olafsson, Siglufjörður’s chief of police, is tasked with investigating the events.
Season Two (2018) presents a plot with references to Icelandic Sagas and Norse mythology. The story involves nationalism and anti-capitalism, gay rights and abuses of power.
Andri Olafsson now works in the capital Reykjavík and has to investigate the attack on the Minister of Industry. This investigation takes him back to his hometown where he meets the characters of the first season.

The Valhalla Murders
“The Valhalla Murders” (original title: Brot) is originally commissioned by RUV ( Icelandic National Broadcasting Service) aired in Iceland in 2019 and released by Netflix this March 2020.
Serial killings disturb Reykjavik, Iceland’s normally peaceful capital. Brutal murders.
Norwegian detective (Arnar) have to help the Icelandic police force. Police investigator named Kata (Nína Filippusdóttir) has to share his investigation and his personal problems.
As the murders go on, the clues point to an orphanage closed for many years.
